Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge [ARC Review]

★★★★★

Goodreads summary: Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl's journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

2014 MUST READ!

  • The moment I started reading it and read the first sentence, I am totally on it! It was WOAH! WHAT?

  • I love it! I don’t know how to say it but when I was reading Cruel Beauty, I really felt like I was in there and there’s some historical vibe going on.

  • I actually read it out loud. I felt I was the narrator. This is so good!!!

  • The thing is the “mystery” part is pretty predictable, predictable in a good way. I mean when you found out that you’re right, you’ll just smile or grin or whatever!!! I enjoyed it.

  • Ignifex is such a mystery. While reading I also guess/making list of his possible name. It was crazy! At first I thought he’s King Oberon, he’s king right? LOL. Then he started saying Greek gods so I said he’s definitely Hades. (Yeah I know I am crazy, haha). And then he Ignifex said he’s The Lord of Bargains, shoot I think he’s Grimalkin! HA! I’m still wrong what the hell??? (Yeah yeah I am a fan of Iron Fey :P)

  • Yes I am a bit disappointed what happened near the end. I am so pissed. I also still hate Nyx’s aunt and twin sis. Ugh! #disgusted

Uninvited by Sophie Jordan (Uninvited, #1) [ARC REVIEW]

★★★★★

Goodreads summary: The Scarlet Letter meets Minority Report in bestselling author Sophie Jordan's chilling new novel about a teenage girl who is ostracized when her genetic test proves she's destined to become a murderer.

When Davy Hamilton's tests come back positive for Homicidal Tendency Syndrome (HTS)-aka the kill gene-she loses everything. Her boyfriend ditches her, her parents are scared of her, and she can forget about her bright future at Juilliard. Davy doesn't feel any different, but genes don't lie. One day she will kill someone.

Only Sean, a fellow HTS carrier, can relate to her new life. Davy wants to trust him; maybe he's not as dangerous as he seems. Or maybe Davy is just as deadly.

The first in a two-book series, Uninvited tackles intriguing questions about free will, identity, and human nature. Steeped in New York Times bestselling author Sophie Jordan's trademark mix of gripping action and breathless romance, this suspenseful tale is perfect for fans of James Patterson, Michelle Hodkin, and Lisa McMann

THIS IS SO GOOD!!! 2014 MUST READ! Once you started reading it you’ll want to finish it. I enjoyed it! I want more!
Kristen Simmon’s “Article 5” meets Suzanne Young “The Program” meets Alexandra Bracken “The Darkest Minds”

  • Davy reminds me of Tris Prior, the only difference is Tris is much stubborn and she doesn’t have a jealous bitch “best friend”. (R.I.P. Tris)

  • Uninvited – those who has Homicidal Tendency Syndrome (HTS) or the Killing gene. I think mostly they’re kids and teens that are affected. Discovered by Dr. Wainwright, he believes those who has HTS has a tendency to kill someone, they must be monitored. The Uninviteds have their own set of new rules. Those who broke them will meet certain punishment.

  • The balance between the romance and the action is so good. It kinda reminds me of reading Fallen Series by Lauren Kate. (I mean the vibe not the topic)

  • I wish though the “The Cage” part is more exciting, because the name itself is exciting. What s the Cage? Okay, uhm… It’s part of the a school where they put the Uninviteds. I don’t think they put them there to study. They put them to monitor them.

  • The tagline: “They say she’s a killer. One day she will be.”

Very catchy. Good job!
So…did Davy kill someone???  **grin show teeth**

  • The part where they put the “special” Uninviteds,I thing that’s when the real excitement started. It so cool!

  • I WANT MORE UNINVITED BOOKS!!!

Only Everything by Kierran Scott (True Love, #1) [ARC Review]

★★★★★

Goodreads summary: High school romance is tough—even for a bona fide love goddess. Can Cupid succeed as a mortal matchmaker?

When Eros (aka Cupid) is expelled from Olympus for defying Zeus after falling in love with Orion, she is banished to what she believes to be hell. We call it New Jersey. If she ever wants to go back to the comforts of her old life, she will have to find love for three couples—without using her powers.

Eros, now calling herself True, immediately identifies her first project in Charlie and believes finding him love will be a piece of cake. Charlie is new at school and eager to break out of his old image of band geek, so it’s lucky for him when he falls in with the right crowd on his first day. But music is still his passion. That is, until he meets Katrina...

Katrina is floundering after the death of her father and takes refuge with a boy who, while not entirely supportive, will be there when she needs him, unlike her mother. Too bad True thinks any girl Charlie talks to is perfect for him. Can she get out of her own way and help Charlie and Katrina connect, or will she be stuck in New Jersey forever?
