The Ninth Life of Louis Drax by Liz Jensen [Review]

★★★★★

Goodreads Summary: Louis Drax is a boy like no other. He is brilliant and strange, and every year something violent seems to happen to him. On his ninth birthday, Louis goes on a picnic with his parents and falls off a cliff. The details are shrouded in mystery. Louis's mother is shell-shocked; his father has vanished. And after some confusion Louis himself, miraculously alive but deep in a coma, arrives at Dr. Pascal Dannachet's celebrated coma clinic…Full of astonishing twists and turns, this is a masterful tale of the secrets the human mind can hide.

…the boy came back to life, two hours after being pronounced officially dead.

I’m never been a fan of this genre in a book. I mean NEVER.
Not until I was reading my Glamour Magazine. There’s an interview there, of Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) and there’s a ‘On Their Future’ thingy and Jamie answered “I’m filming The
9th Life of Louis Drax.” So yeah! I got curious and I found out its based on a book… *grin*
(Glamour 2015 Pg. 275)

It was so good! Few days after I finished reading it, I’m still ‘feeling’ it. It was a BOOK HUNGOVER. *thumbs up*
It kept me up all night, I finished it past midnight…

Note: Spoilers.

• First, thanks to this book I think I’m going to start reading books with this kind of genre. I’m kinda excited, I don’t know why.

• It was a slow paced with alternating point of view of Louis Drax & Dr. Pascal Dannachet.
It wasn’t always on the same timeline. Sometimes Louis is on the present sometimes he’s just recalling his past. I kinda love how it was written. I love the interview style of telling a story.

• At first I thought this book is some sort of paranormal-thingy. But then the story goes on… I realized it’s mostly a ‘fantasy’ that a nine year old boy came up. I really didn’t know what to think then.

• Liz Jensen captured the spirit of a nine year old boy. It was just amazing. I love it everytime Louis parts come up.

• There are some scenes that are so predictable. But you know what? It makes it even greater. Then I have this feeling that I-know-what-is-going-to-happen-next but still feeling the mystery that I still want and trying to solve.

• I love the way it ended. It’s just perfect!

Dreamland by Robert L. Anderson [ARC REVIEW]

★★★★

GOODREADS SUMMARY: Odea Donahue has been able to travel through people’s dreams since she was six years old. Her mother taught her the three rules of walking: Never interfere. Never be seen. Never walk the same person’s dream more than once. Dea has never questioned her mother, not about the rules, not about the clocks or the mirrors, not about moving from place to place to be one step ahead of the unseen monsters that Dea’s mother is certain are right behind them.

Then a mysterious new boy, Connor, comes to town and Dea finally starts to feel normal. As Connor breaks down the walls that she’s had up for so long, he gets closer to learning her secret. For the first time she wonders if that’s so bad. But when Dea breaks the rules, the boundary between worlds begins to deteriorate. How can she know what’s real and what’s not?

I think the most interesting part started at the very end.
This is just the ‘prequel’ for the next one.
Which I think there should be a prequel before this. It kinda started very heavy… I was looking for some support.

Note: Spoilers.

• I honestly didn’t write any notes while I was reading it. Not because I was too focused on reading it just that I really don’t have anything that I can write. Maybe 70 percent of it didn’t interest me…
But I do sincerely think the concept is great. As I was saying awhile ago the last part started at the very end. It was… and if there is going to a sequel I am going to read it. (Well… if HarperCollins will still give me ARCs then. *grin*)

• If a book is a food… a writer is a chef… I guess some food have this special ingredient that people love and they keep on coming back and recommends it to some of their friends.
Dreamland is a food that is perfectly cooked and well seasoned… the thing is it doesn’t have an oomph that will make other people like it too. Many will like it but I think some of them will choose to try another food.

• I recently made this ‘shelf’ on my head, literally. Dreamland belongs to this.
BOOKS FOR THOSE WHO ARE READING JUST TO PAST TIME NOT FOR THOSE READERS THAT MADE READING A HOBBY.

• There’s nothing to gripe on this book. The writing is okay, the concept is good, the characters are not annoying blah blah blah and the cover is awesome.

ONE OF THE BEST AND HOTTEST I'VE READ THIS YEAR!
 Ohmigosh! OMG!
BOOK 2 PLEASE!!! I CANT WAIT!!!

*MC’s Corner*
Note: Spoilers.
• This book reminded me so much of Christina Lauren’s Beautiful Bastard (one of my fave books).
Since it’s been, I think, years since the last time I read that book it’s kind of refreshing. SO COOL!

• It only reminded me of Beautiful Bastard but it is a totally different story.
I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw this on the BestSellers. But I’m going to be disappointed if it wasn’t.

• I was surprised when I saw this email that they are giving an ARC of C.L. Parker new book. Its been weeks since the last time I checked my NetGalley account, I didn’t even requested it.
But I’m glad that they are gave me this. (I did a ARC review of C.L. Parker first two books)
To Bantam Books, thank you so much! It’s an honor. *kisses*

• Most of the scenes were… explosive. Like BAM! BANG BANG BANG kind of explosive.
It was so hooooOooT! Especially the limo ‘scene’ that turns out to be just a dream. LOL

• Is the second book still Shaw & Cassidy’s story? I felt like if it is there’s going to be a big accident.
Aaaand I kinda want to know what Quinn’s story is… pre &post Daddy I don’t care1 I want to know his story!!!

• My only gripe on this book is that, there are some unnecessary too much explanations for minoe characters.

• GIMME GIMME! THE NEXT BOOK!
